Autumn is here and winter is right around the corner. The challenge of changing your look during these months is always a battle. So, if you’re thinking of custom coloring your Manhattan Couture Hair Extensions then we have a few simple steps to follow before you reach for the nearest dye bottle and hastily paint your extensions a different color.
Firstly, you should always perform a strand test. To do this, mix some of the dye into a bowl and apply it to one small clip-in-weft. Once the dye has developed, you can then see if the dye is the right shade and determine whether you want to proceed to use the dye on the rest of your hair extensions.
Got that? OK, let’s move onto our second tip!
Always dye darker… if you can. Coloring your Virgin Remy Hair Extensions is much like coloring your natural hair and a lot of care must be taken to protect the extensions from hair chemicals. When hair extensions are dyed from a darker color to a lighter color the hair often becomes damaged and tangles. To avoid this, always dye the hair from a light to dark. If you really want those blonde bombshell locks then we recommend using Sachajuan Intensive Hair Oil to restore smoothness and build up strength and fabulous shine after the dye has been rinsed out.
Tip three! When washing the dye out it’s always best to use warm water. Do not rub the hair together vigorously. Gently run the water over the extensions and use your fingers to detangle. Ensure the dye has been washed out completely and the water runs clear. It is recommended to let the extensions dry naturally before styling or wearing them.
Lastly, rehydrating the hair.
Your extensions don’t have natural oils like your own hair to rehydrate them, which means they can become brittle and snap if colored and not rehydrated. There are numerous products and techniques that will add moisture, our favorite is applying Sachajuan Hair Cleansing Cream - apply on wet hair and massage firmly into the scalp for one minute, leaving the product to absorb into the hair. Rinse with warm water to allow the product to soak into the ends of the hair - repeat if necessary. This new cream formula does not lather but instead creates shine, luster, moisture and softness while refreshing and rehydrating your hair.
Good Luck, we promise it’s not as scary as it seems.
